Help I have a 1948 alloy inter i have just pulled down the top end and found a head gasket but i cant find one in the parts manual should it have one. It also has a aluminium base gasket not a paper one please point me in the right direction. Gary Lowe

No gasget is used between the head and barrel, just lap the head in to the barrel with fine grinding paste making sure all old paste is removed. Tighten head evenly in stages until tight. If undamaged re-use alloy base gasget so as not to alter comp ratio or vertical shaft coupling clearances. Bs all the best John
